Successful Crop for Saskatchewan Grower and Seed Hawk Contest Winner

Langbank, SK (July 21, 2017) – A successful crop hinges on a successful seeding season, and Reed Andrew from Regina, Saskatchewan knows this all too well.

Mr. Andrew, who farms 9,800 acres under the farm name R & J Farms, is the grand prize winner of Seed Hawk’s Seed & Succeed Sweepstakes for 2017. As the contest winner, he won the use of a 2017 Seed Hawk Seeding System for 2,500 acres of precision seeding during this past spring seeding.

Reed Andrew has owned a Seed Hawk since the early 2000’s and was eager to put the 2,500 acres of Seed Hawk precision to good use. “Seeding went really well”, says Andrew. “Other than a few hiccups we were generally quite pleased with the performance of the (new) drill”. He has been particularly happy with the accuracy of the seed and fertilizer placement, which has led to the crop maturing evenly and uniformly.

Seed Hawk’s patented sectional control is another distinct feature that Mr. Andrew says helps reduce costs on their farm. “It is a huge benefit to us because of the curves around sloughs, bushes and tree lines…it will be about 5-10% savings on our seeding”. Regarding the tablet-based iCon Control System, Mr. Andrew enjoys the ease-of-use of the setup. “You can bring it outside, you can check your flow in each (meter), you can see your weights of your tanks. It’s just really friendly to use”.

Behind the scenes video shoot of Reed Andrew’s user review video

Mr. Andrew and his family farm about ten minutes north of Regina. His operation was on the home stretch of seeding when visited by a film crew to shoot one of Seed Hawk’s user review videos. The crew also included Seed Hawk founder, Pat Beaujot.

Since the time of the video shoot, unfortunately, rain has not been in abundance around R & J Farms, as is the case with most of southern Saskatchewan. While the crops still look good, he says they have “only had approximately a couple of inches of rain since the beginning of seeding”.

Nonetheless, Mr. Andrew has already begun seeding preparation for 2018, and the Seed & Succeed seeding system will remain on R & J Farms. Mr. Andrew purchased the system through Young’s Equipment in Regina. “I would strongly recommend a Seed Hawk to anybody” he says.
